dc.title | A study of comparison in the measurements of effectiveness for assemble [i.e. assembly] line balancing in apparel industry | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Many researches of measurements for assembly line balancing (ALB) have been carried out for a long time and represent a maturing area in the realm of assembly planning and design. However, among a number of measurements, not all of them is appropriate to the apparel industry. With regards to this deficiency in apparel industry, this study is first to review the measurements of the effectiveness used in the assembly line, including three prevalent categories, namely technical, economic, and social and organization. Then, a thorough comparison among the measurements of effectiveness is carried out to identify some possible measurements which are suitable for the apparel industry in general. The purpose of study here is to find the most appropriate measurement which can incorporate greater flexibility in the rapid changing apparel industry. An empirical case study finds that only balance delay (BD) and total cost (TC) are more appropriate to measure the effectiveness of ALB problem. The results are validated by the actual data including task time, piece rate, production time, and daily production output collected from a bag's manufacturer. It provides a guideline of selecting the appropriate tool for measuring the effectiveness of assembly line balancing in apparel industry. | en_US |
