dcterms.abstractMany studies have been on IEQ affecting individual comfort, but more research is needed on whether mood states affect user comfort. has been studied less frequently. The main objective of this research was to investigate the correlation between indoor environmental quality (IEQ) and mood states as well as individual comfort in library settings. The study aimed to offer useful recommendations for enhancing IEQ and promoting individual comfort in libraries. To achieve the above research objectives, a subjective and objective survey was conducted in four study rooms of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Library simultaneously for five consecutive working days. The subjective data included personal information of the participants, their feelings and satisfaction with the environment, their current emotional state and an exploration of what factors of IEQ could make them work better. five consecutive working days of environmental data were collected using the IEQ sensor as objective data, including ambient temperature and humidity, carbon dioxide concentration, sound intensity, and light intensity. After analysing the data, it was discovered that the spatial layout of the IEQ had the most significant impact on individual comfort, with lighting performance coming in second. This suggests that emotional state significantly affects an individual's comfort level in different IEQ conditions. This study holds significance as it sheds light on how IEQ and mood state impacts individual comfort. It also offers practical suggestions and ideas to enhance IEQ in educational and workplace environments. The results of this study will facilitate exploration and research in related fields and improve people's quality of life and work efficiency.en_US
