Abstract: This study explores the relationships among English learning beliefs, English classroom anxiety and English achievement among non-English-major students from China’s post-2000s generation. One hundred and twenty-seven post-2000s generation non-English major students participated in a survey consisting of validated scales and an open-ended questionnaire. Through the quantitative analyses (descriptive analysis, correlation tests and regression analysis) and qualitative analysis (thematic analysis), it was found that students held positive beliefs in English learning strategies and motivations, and associated English learning with innate talent. In addition, the findings revealed that the main source of English classroom anxiety is low English proficiency, especially oral English. Further, English learning beliefs had a mediating effect between English classroom anxiety and English achievement. These findings contribute to understanding the attitudes of post-2000s generation non-English major students towards their English learning.
