Abstract: | Power flow is the basic tool reflecting the operating status of a power system. Further related studies and analyses basically rely on the power flow calculation result. With increasing uncertainties introduced in power systems in recent years, conventional deterministic power flow methods could not provide sufficient and comprehensive information about a system. Therefore, the probabilistic approach has been studied and utilized to deal with stochastic problems in power flow calculation. The probabilistic elements in a power system come from various factors including distributed energy resource (DER) and demand side management (DSM) etc. Creating suitable models to describe and simulate these elements and applying them to efficient algorithms is necessary for conforming to the developing situation of the time. Active distribution networks (ADN) usually have high R/X ratios and three phase unbalanced features compared with the transmission network. In addition, distributed generators are usually connected to the distribution system. All factors above could have an effect on the efficiency and even the feasibility of the power flow algorithms. Therefore, suitable algorithms with high efficiency should be studied to apply to the distribution system. In this dissertation, models and algorithms related to probabilistic power flow (PPF) and distribution networks are reviewed first. Monte Carlo simulation (MCS), which is considered as the benchmark of PPF, is conducted on an unbalanced three phase distribution system. An analytical approach using combined cumulants and Gram-Charlier expansion is introduced and applied in the same distribution system to do the comparison. Since few studies have concerned the unbalanced factor of the ADN when applying an analytical method, this dissertation improves the work based on the predecessor's research foundation. |
