Abstract: The property and facility management (PFM) sector faces challenges such as labour shortages and quality issues, prompting the adoption of digital technology (DT) for innovative solutions. This study focuses on the digitalisation of PFM in Hong Kong, aiming to identify research directions, current advances, challenges, and future developments. The research has four objectives: 1) Investigate emerging trends and future research directions in digitalisation within the PFM field, focusing on building information modelling (BIM), geographic information systems (GIS), Internet of Things (IoT), immersive technology (IT) and artificial intelligence (AI). 2) Examine recent advances in digitalisation by Hong Kong’s PFM professionals, emphasising BIM, IoT, IT and AI. 3) Analyse key challenges hindering digitalisation in PFM from organisational and governmental perspectives in Hong Kong. 4) Collect opinions from PFM professionals to formulate recommendations for successful digitalisation development. Methodology involved a literature review, questionnaire surveys and semi−structured interviews with PFM experts. Despite challenges like cultural transformation and data security concerns, respondents expressed optimism about digitalisation’s future in Hong Kong’s PFM sector, emphasising data security, effective technology integration, innovative solutions, data analytics, sustainability practice and open standards. This research provides insights into PFM digitalisation’s future directions, current advancements, and challenges in Hong Kong, offering recommendations for optimal results in the PFM sector.
