dcterms.abstractColour rendition, which stands for the ability of light source to illuminate an object with a restored and satisfying colour appearance, is a property of light source that proves to be crucial in human society. In 20th century, the derivation of methods to quantify the colour rendering performance of a light source has become a major issue in colour science. The colour rendering index (CRI) was adopted by International Commission of Illumination (CIE) but was later criticized for its application of distorted colour space and inaccurate formulae for colour appearance phenomena.en_US
dcterms.abstractThis article would introduce a novel index, CIECAM02-UCS index proposed by Li et al. and evaluate the colour rendering ability of 6 light sources with indices including CRI, CIECAM02-UCS index, and 2 other indices of Gamut Area Index (GAI) , Colour Quality Scale (CQS), which are aimed to improve assessments for saturation and assessments for LEDs, respectively. The results would then be compared with a psychophysics experiment for colour rendition and colour saturation conducted on 8 participants. The level of correlation between these results and index value could serve as an assessment of the accuracy of indices. Furthermore, the attributes of light sources other than colour fidelity, for example, naturalness, comfortableness are also recorded for further research of evaluation.en_US
