Examine the benefits and challenges in the adoption of blockchain technology and real-world asset tokenization to SME financingen_US
Small and medium enterprises are of crucial importance to economic development, yet they have long struggled to secure financing through traditional channels. The emergence of blockchain technology and asset tokenization offers promising alternatives for SME financing, but these innovations also present significant challenges. This study examined the benefits and challenges associated with the adoption of blockchain technology and real-world asset tokenization for SME financing.en_US
This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is an ethnographic study exploring the benefits and challenges of blockchain adoption and asset tokenization. Six key benefit and challenge factors were identified through a review of existing literature. Open-ended, semi-structured interviews were conducted with experienced professionals in the blockchain and asset tokenization industries. Their insights were analyzed using qualitative data analysis methods.en_US
The second part of the study presents a practical application case of tokenization from a consumer finance-focused start-up E-Commerce company, which motivated this research. The case study proposes and analyzes the asset tokenization of accounts receivables generated from buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) transactions.en_US
This research provides a comprehensive analysis of the potential of blockchain and asset tokenization in enhancing SME financing. It identifies the key challenges that need to be addressed for successful implementation.en_US
