Abstract: The purpose of this case study was to find the critical factors lead to unsuccessful implementation of MRPII in a Toy manufacturing company located in Shen Zhen. The study is carried out through analysis of the current implementation status, investigation on the implementation process by collecting data from interviewing with the key people who have participate in the implementation process, looking for the company meeting minutes, agenda, training course materials, quote sheet in the implementation period and adding my own observations. The study identifies the critical factors lead to unsuccessful implementation are the lack of top management support, lack of education, weak project team, incorrect software selection sequence and lack of accountability on the data accuracy. The study also identifies the company cultures - resistance to change, centered organization structure affect the successful implementation. This case study supports the success factors and proven path for successful implementation in literature review. Recommendations for the re-implementation were suggested and conclusion made at end of the study. This report is divided into several chapters. Chapter I is Introduction. In this chapter, the problem statement were addressed, the justification and scope of the study were presented. Chapter II is the literature review. It involves three parts, the explanation of MRPII in general sense, the critical elements in successful implementation, and the critical path for successful implementation. Chapter III is the Research methodology description. The method used for this study is the case study using the interview and secondary data analysis. The merits of case study and steps to avoid the bias and disadvantages were discussed. Chapter IV is the Data analysis. First of all, the current implementation status is identified by evaluate against the ABCD checklist1. Then the implementation process is studied. The problems and the reasons behind why it is not successful in implementation were analyzed by collecting data from interviewing key people and reviewing internal documents. The critical factors affecting successful implementation are then compared with the factors in the literature review. The findings matched with the literature. Chapter V is the Recommendation and Conclusion. Several recommendations for re-implementation are provided. Those recommendations are to improve the chances of success of the program.
