| Abstract: | The aim of this study is to examine the process, outcomes and pedagogic value of peer revision in the teaching of written business English. A group of students in a business English class in Hong Kong revised a peer group's first draft of meeting minutes. Their written revisions and verbal feedback were used to establish a taxonomy of the kinds of changes made to a business text during peer revision. The effect of this peer revision on the students' second draft is also examined. Finally, the first draft was also given to business English teachers and Hong Kong business people to revise. Comparisons among the students, teachers and business people suggest the extent to which student revisions resemble those of their teachers, or those of 'real world' readers. The study ends with some recommendations for making the classroom practice of peer revision more consistent with revision in the business domain. |
