Smart health monitoring system based on a fiber optic sensoren_US
Nowadays, fiber optic sensors (FOS) have attracted much attention due to some of its unique characteristic, such as electromagnetic interference resistance and high sensitivity. A new FOS based method to monitor vital signs is proposed.en_US
The FOS is based on the optic fiber MZI and a vertical cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is used as the light source. The sensor system is supposed to detect the ballistocadiagaphy(BCG), a signal of heart beating.en_US
Firstly, some performance parameters of the VCSEL were detected. Secondly, the MZI based FOS was prepared by fiber optic fusion and other methods. Thirdly, the light source, FOS, photodetectors and other parts were integrated as the health monitoring system. In order to verify the performance of the system, four conditions were set for the experiment. Then the signal data was processed on the computer, and the signals of heartbeat were extracted. Finally, the BCG signals were compared to electrocardiogram signals.en_US
As a result, the MZI based FOS system monitors human's health by detect the BCG signals successfully. Compared to ECG, the correlation reach 0.9764 and the RMSE is as low as 0.0108. Therefore, using FOS to detect BCG can be considered a reliable alternative to ECGen_US
