| dc.title | Validity and reliability of wrist range of motion measurement using markerless motion capture in healthy adults | en_US |
| dcterms.abstract | Objectives: This study evaluated the concurrent and criterion-based validities of the maximum active wrist range of motion measurement tracked by a markerless motion capture (MMC) system compared with the findings measured by conventional clinical measurement using universal goniometer and the marker-based motion capture - Vicon Kinetic System (VICON) respectively. The test-retest reliability of the measurement tracked by the MMC was also investigated. | en_US |
| dcterms.abstract | Methods: Participants were instructed to attend two sessions of wrist motion measurement. Three maximum active ranges of left and right flexion-extension, radial-ulnar deviation and pronation-supination of the wrist were measured by the universal goniometer followed by the VICON and the MMC simultaneously in the first session. Only the MMC was measured again in the second session within the next 7 days for test-retest reliability. The average values of the three active ranges measured by the three measurement methods were analyzed by using Pearson's correlation, independent t-test and intraclass correlation coefficients. | en_US |
| dcterms.abstract | Results: Out of the 38 healthy participants recruited in the study, the results of 23 participants were used after filtering the data. Results showed that there was satisfactory criterion-based validity of the results measured by the MMC with comparison to the results measured by VICON in flexion (right – r=0.83, p<.05; left – r=0.91, p<.05); extension (right – r=0.96, p<.05); and radial deviation (right – r=0.62, p<.05; left – r=0.68, p<.05). There was inconsistency in concurrent validity of the MMC against the results measured by universal goniometer and MMC. Test-retest reliability of the MMC measurement results at two-time intervals was good with r ranging from 0.3 to 0.99, ICC from 0.44 to 0.96 except left extension. | en_US |
| dcterms.abstract | Conclusion: We found the differences in terms of validities and reliabilities in the three measurement methods using universal goniometry, markerless and marker-based motion capture systems for wrist range of motion measurement. Our findings indicated that the MMC technology has potential to be used as an option for replacement of universal goniometry in clinical measurement of wrist motions in the future. Further development of the data capture algorithm in wrist pronation-supination motion capture as well as the way to improve the clarity of the data captured during the motion capture process were warranted. Future research on the location of the marker points and adding algorithms to minimize the difference in the wrist ranges of motion captured is recommended. | en_US |
