| dcterms.abstract | Situated within the literature on motivation and Self-regulated learning strategies in second language acquisition, this study examines how English learning motivation and SRL strategies relate to academic performance among rural high school students in China. Employing a mixed-methods survey design, the research addresses the need to understand the mechanisms underlying academic success in under-resourced rural contexts, where existing research is limited. The results reveal that expectancy for success and attainment value are the strongest motivational predictors of performance, meta-sociocultural interactive strategies are the most influential learning strategies, and strategy use partially mediates the motivation–achievement relationship. These findings underscore the importance of fostering both motivational beliefs and strategic learning behaviors, and highlight the need for context-sensitive interventions and measurement tools in rural educational settings. | en_US |
