dcterms.abstract | This paper seeks to explore the stage theory of enterprise informatization complementary system with empirical evidence from manufacturing firms in Zhejiang. Three logically related issues are covered, which are respectively the difference between SME and large firms regarding informatization performance, the difference between their complementary system and the stages of informatization complementarity. Four findings are made. First, in short term, there is no difference between SME and large firms in informatization performance, however in the long run, SME are inferior to their large counterparts. Second, in short term, there is no difference between SME and large firms in informatization complementarity, however in the long run, SME are inferior to their large counterparts. Third, it is found that there are stage differences in the enterprise informatization complementarity. Fourthly, in the first period of informatization, informatization capital is complementary with human resource practices such as the communication and cooperation between managers and employees. In the second period, informatization capital is not only complementary with human resource practices but also with rigid organizational behaviors such as centralization of power, integration and product specialization. In the third period, informatization capital is not only complementary with human resource practices but also with flexible organizational behaviors such as decentralization, disintegration and product diversification. | en_US |
