Abstract: In this project, Transient Stability Assessment through Transient Energy Function (TEF) Method is studied. Using this approach, the results for critical fault clearance time of various fault cases are compared with the outputs through conventional time domain simulation. This report starts with an explanation on the power system model used and the TEF method applied to the power system model are discussed. These include the various component within the TEF and methodology used in Transient Stability Assessment. This is followed by discussions on the computational aspects of the TEF method for the Classical Generators Model. The TEF procedure outline is shown below : Step 1 : Input data Step 2 : Build the admittance matrix Step 3 : Eliminate all fixed buses Step 4 : Compute conditions at the end of the disturbance Step 5 : Compute the reduced postdisturbance admittance matrix Step 6 : Compute the stable equilibrium point Step 7 : Identify the model of disturbance Step 8 : Compute the unstable equilibrium point Step 9 : Compute the energy margin In the last chapter, the results of Transient Stability Assessment through both TEF method and conventional time simulation are compared and discussed so as to observe the performance of TEF method used in Transient Stability Assessment. Test results are based on a typical power system and several fault locations are investigated. In conclusion, it has demonstrated the effectiveness and the potential of the TEF approach to fast estimation of transient stability performance in a small to medium size power system.
