dc.title | Computer simulation in the performance of the electrical system for the light rail transit system | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | To maintain a satisfactory operation of an electrified railway system, there requires lots of cooperation and coordination between various engineering disciplines and the operations staff. From the viewpoint of power engineering, a healthy supply to every vehicle is of ultimate important. To enhance the system security of the electricity supply, a simulation of the model for various train performance conditions is essential. This project develops a simulation model for the study of the existing power supply network. Visual FoxPro is used as the development of the main program, as it is commercially available. In general, this simulator can derive the performance of different pattern of the running of vehicles. In special events, the model can also be used to derive the possible constrains and limitation of the power supply system. Like the traditional method in train operation modeling, discrete model is used to evaluate the continuous function of train operation and the electrical demand. Referral model is then followed to split the load to the corresponding rectifier stations. But unlike the traditional method, the performance is viewed from the system level - the power required by the vehicle is used in the simulation instead of modeling the characteristic of individual traction motor. This thesis at first gives an introduction to the background of the L.R.T. System. It then reviews the limitations of the existing SCADA system when used as a means to evaluate the performance of the electrical system and the objectives of developing the model. The system information was introduced to give a picture of the electrical system of the L.R.T. The development of vehicle movement, transformation of vehicle movement to mechanical power, and finally the derived electrical demand in various rectifier stations, these form the core of the development of the project. Special application of the model on the evaluation of the maximum number of vehicles operating simultaneously within an electrical section is provided. The thesis concluded with recommendations for improving the utilization of electric supply. | en_US |
