dc.title | Development of an error compensation system for taper turning using ARX modeling techniques | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | In this project, the Forecasting Compensation Control (FCC) strategy is investigated to improve the roundness error in tape turning. This Forecasting Compensatory control (FCC) had been developed to compensate for both repeatable and nonrepeatable errors. This strategy, based on active error sensing, stochastic modeling and forecasting control by Dynamic Data System methodology, has been applied successfully in the past to roundness control in taper turning. As a consequence of recent hardware and software development, error reduction methods by compensation are gaining more acceptance over error avoidance strategies. By using a new approach, the FCC strategy is combined with Autoregressive with Exogenous Input (ARX) algorithm and using a 3D Force measurement device. The error model of the relative motion and force in X and Y direction can be captured. Through the software programming, the error is autoregressive updated, forecasted and compensation command is obtained. Then this command is sent to a piezoelectric actuator which moves the cutter to compensate for the error motion. Through the taper turning experiment with the FCC system and different parameters setting of the recursive algorithm, it was demonstrated that the workpeice roundness can be improved by 33.2%. | en_US |
