Abstract: Outsourcing is regarded as a competitive strategy that allows companies to cope with the new business environment. Outsourcing manufacturing enables companies to focus on the core competencies and to re-allocate the resources to other core activities for greater return of the companies. Even though outsourcing becomes more important to enterprises, a research had indicated that more than 40% of these implementations still failed to deliver the business value originally envisioned by the parties. Although adopting outsourcing has been regarded as popular practice to obtain greater competitiveness, not all companies can manage to achieve their goals through outsourcing. The question is how to implement the outsourcing projects and what are the important factors contributed to the success of outsourcing. The research starts with in-depth study of literature in the theory of outsourcing and related subjects. Based on the literature theories, a longitudinal real life case study of the EL Group is to analyze and study the integration of theories into practice. In the case study, it has indicated that the branch office has played a very important role in the success of EL's outsourcing manufacturing strategy. The branch offices perform the functions of monitor and control and the coordination with the suppliers and the headquarters. Moreover, good communication between these parties is highly recommended which can also facilitate the success of the outsourcing projects. To review the implementation phases of adopting outsourcing strategy in the model, a new six phase model had been developed.
