dcterms.abstractSince the China open door policy, a large amount of factories that were originally located in Hong Kong have migrated to China. Those still remain in Hong Kong are mostly focusing their work on design and development activities. Along with the ever-increasing demand of high quality product from the market, it is definitely important for Hong Kong consumer product manufacturer in delivering good quality product in order to maintain the competitiveness. The objective of this dissertation is to find out good design practices that benefit to consumer product manufacturer in Hong Kong. A comprehensive literature survey on the concept and theory of various leading quality experts along with ISO9000 and TQM theory concerning the key elements to product development work was done. Questionnaire was designed base on these key characteristics to collect objective data from five individual consumer product development companies in Hong Kong. A thoughtful qualitative analysis was carried out and successfully identify a number of good design practices along with recommendation for implementation of these findings.en_US
