Abstract: | This dissertation compares the performance of an indoor wireless system in terms of capacity and handoff rate for different Dynamic Channel Assignment (DCA) and Fixed Channel Assignment Schemes. We focus on two DCA schemes, the Least Interfered Channel (DCA-LIC) and the First Available (DCA-FA). The result indicates that both DCA can improve the network capacity in comparison with FCA. Although DCA-FA achieves the highest network capacity, it also incurs higher handoff rate than others. We also study the performance of handoff triggering schemes in this paper. Handoff criteria based on relative power, carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR), bit error rate (BER) and timer are studied. Several combinations of four parameters create a total of 9 handoff triggering schemes. The handoff scheme based on relative power and timer achieve the lowest handoff rate while maintaining the lowest interference probability. |
