dc.title | Social interaction of adults with schizophrenia with other persons in the community | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Social isolation and social skill deficits seem to be the characteristics of adults with schizophrenia. As more and more psychiatric patients move from mental hospitals back to the community, they will have more opportunities to interact with others in the community. A positive and supportive interaction experience will enhance the psychiatric rehabilitation and community integration. The study aims to explore feelings in social interaction and to see how adults with schizophrenia interact with others, and related interpretation in such an interaction. Qualitative research method was used for the study. In-depth interviews with semi-structured interview guide were used as research method. The process of interviews was audio taped and transcribed. Inductive analysis method was used for data analysis. There were 6 respondents aged 21 to 35m who received in-depth interviews. Findings have shown that definition of situation is crucial in assigning the roles and function of each participant during social interaction. Participants defined their meaning of self through the interaction process. It is characterized that adults with schizophrenia would face the challenge of intimate crisis in closer interaction with others. Their feelings will become the guide for self-preservation and determine the decision of approach or avoidance in the interaction. | en_US |
