dcterms.abstract | The rapid development of the Internet and World Wide Web has posed a large impact on the society. The technology has also gradually created a culture to change the ways of communication, marketing and management in an enterprise. To remain competitive, the hotel industry has to meet the challenges by presenting its virtual image on the World Wide Web. This study aims at comparing and contrasting the website management difference between China-based 5-star hotels and the World's best hotels by established a hierarchy evaluation model. The Study adopted the analytic hierarchy process to analyze and reveal each layer of the included hotel websites based on functions of hotel management. The evaluators used a 5-Point Judgmental Scale to score the performance of seventy-seven websites of China's 5-star hotels and fifty-seven websites of the world's best hotels. The researcher performed a descriptive statistics to examine the website performance of China's 5-star hotels and the World's Best Hotels respectively. The researcher also compared and contrasted the performance between these websites by appropriate statistical analyses. Empirical results showed that China's hotel websites scored an unsatisfactory performance whereas the World's Best Hotels had an average performance. The research also reflects that there were significant differences between websites of China's hotels and the World's Best Hotels. The World's Best Hotels received higher performance scores than China 5-star hotels not only in each function layer of but also in an overall perspective. The websites of China's hotels generally characterized a network propaganda booklet oriented guestroom whereas the website of the World's Best Hotels appeared more like a distribution and reservation platform oriented guestroom promotion. As a whole, the hotels have not taken full advantage of the Internet and World Wide Web. This can be reflected by the fact that even the World's Best Hotels only received an average performance score. Basically, the hotel industry needs to specify more on the importance of Internet marketing and Internet Customer Relations Management. | en_US |
