dcterms.abstractBusiness Process Outsourcing (BPO) has been widely used as a competitive strategy in the Hong Kong real estate industry. Despite there have been numerous literatures and research on the impacts of BPO to the competitiveness of organizations in various industries of different countries, little empirical research has been conducted on the BPO strategy in the real estate industry, to be more specific, the very unique Hong Kong real estate industry. This present study addressed this relative void in the literature by exploring, among others, the motives of BPO among the HK real estate developers, the applicability of the traditional BPO model to the local industry, impact & correlation of BPO strategy to the cost competitiveness of the developers, and current BPO management problems and associated solutions in the industry. Results of the study indicated that the sourcing decision in HK real estate industry is subject to a number of unique and industry-specific internal and external environmental constraints that make the traditional BPO strategy not wholly applicable in the local industry. Moreover, BPO strategy was found to have certain correlation with the cost competitiveness of the developers, and outsourcing of certain business processes in the generic real estate value chain could add more value than others to the cost competitiveness of a developer.en_US
