dcterms.abstract | As entitled, this project uses a mircostrip line as an example to illustrate how Finite Difference Method (FDM), a kind of numerical approach, can be used in solving electromagnetic (EM) transmission line problems. The work is started with some fundamental concepts in EM revised in the first chapter. Chapter 2 on FDM begins with deriving difference equation from a partial differential equation (PDE) using central differences. An iteration method, Successive Over Relaxation, of solving partial differential equations is also considered. The steps taken to computing the parameters of the microstrip line are described in Chapter 3. The fourth chapter introduces the MATLAB program developed in this project. The program implements the procedures outlined in Chapter 3 to compute the characteristic impedance of the microstrip line and produce some graphical results for study. Based on the experience gained in this project, the last chapter write a short appreciation of FDM and suggest the work following this project. | en_US |
