An agent-based approach for information filtering over the Interneten_US
This research presents an agent-based system that assists users search and select information sources, browse web sites, and monitor changes in selected web site. The difference between the system and other extant information discovery and filtering systems is that the system is a multi-agent system that exploits some of the features of ontology for processing user queries. By engineering information discovery and monitoring systems along the dimensions of agency and ontology, information discovery and monitoring tasks can be automated by information discovery softbots (IDSs) and information monitoring softbots (IMSs) .Through the use of IDSs and IMSs, users are relieved of the tasks of browsing and monitoring changes in web sites. On this account, multiple web sizes appropriate for a particular topic of interest can be visited and monitored in parallel by several IDSs and IMSs. In addition, an ontology enables several users (and artificial agents) who may use different terms to represent the same concept to share and reuse results. By using some of the features in an ontology to determine the relations among concepts, the query processing agent (QPA) locates and selects relevant web sites appropriate for a query. Detailed expositions of the QPA, IDS and IMS together with a user interface agent and how they inter-operate are given in this research.en_US
