The purpose of the research was to investigate success criteria of successful implementation of ISO 14001 environmental management system in the organizations which have successfully implemented ISO 9000 quality management system in Hong Kong, and to identify any common implementation strategies in them. To be definite, "successful implementation" is defined as "certified by ISO 9000/14000 certification body". The research method is based on surveying the key facilitators, typically the "Management Representatives" of the environmental management system, of the organizations in study. There are about sixty organizations certified to ISO 14001:1996 in Hong Kong. Among the population, twenty-two organizations responded to the research. The average responses showed that also the 5 success criteria were in good possessions in the organizations. The 5 success criteria are "Pertinent organizational policy and objectives", "Strong top management commitment", "Total involvement of individuals", "Consentaneous organization culture" and "Consistently strong interested parties focus". The findings also suggested that there are common implementation strategies relating to these success criteria during the ISO 14001 certification in the ISO 9000 certified organizations.en_US
