dc.title | Identifying obstacles and consumer selection criteria for a new web based publishing service : publishing on demand | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | The Internet, since its commercialization, has expanded tremendously. This development has been still further assisted by the creation of the World Wide Web, which has caught the imagination of users around the world. Electronic Commerce brings innovation and new product to the market place and provides for customization of products and services through on-line marketing and provision of goods and services. This paper demonstrates a new web based publishing service- Publishing on Demand. A publisher will not sell and distribute the whole traditional book to the end users. On the contrary, the publisher will sell and distribute the user-required chapters to the end users. By using electronic commerce, a publisher provides customization of tertiary educational books via a browser. The main objectives of this paper are to identify (1) the obstacles and (2) consumer criteria for an experimental new web based publishing service - Publishing on Demand. The result shows that the cost of development for the experimental project and the unknown market segment are the main obstacles. Moreover, 'book information' has the highest loading among the other factors after running the Principal Component Factor Analysis. Potential consumer will consider this factor very important in order to use the mentioned new web based publishing service and purchase the customized book. Publisher, when launching this service, should put much effort in providing book information to the potential customers. The book description, description of a particular chapter, detailed table of contents of the book should be provided in the web site. Therefore, potential customers will find it more convenient to use such information to fulfill their needs and wants. Finally, based on the results, some broad recommendations and implications are subsequently drawn with regard to the future adoption and deployment of the new web based publishing service. | en_US |
