Exploring the distinctions between first-time and repeat visitors to Hong Kongen_US
The importance of repeat business was studied and it was shown that repeat business plays a vital role in the tourism industry. Few previous studies of repeat visitors to Hong Kong have been performed. Most past studies were found to focus on travellers, as a whole. A questionnaire survey was conducted in order to collect data from 412 leisure travellers visiting Hong Kong. In this study, leisure travellers were divided into two groups, first-time and repeat visitors, for analysis and discussion. The sample group included 239 first-time visitors and 173 repeat visitors. This study focused on examining the differences between first-time and repeat visitors to Hong Kong. Different methods were used to compare the motives of the first-time and repeat visitors. As well as their motives for visiting, their intended touristic activities and sites they intended to visit, sociodemographic details and trip profiles were also compared and analysed. This research therefore explored the characteristics of repeat visitors to Hong Kong. Using the information obtained, the implications and strategies are suggested for future tourism planning in Hong Kong.en_US
