Developing a performance measurement for outsourcing logistics services : a case using six sigma metricen_US
Logistics performance measurement is critical to the success of almost any outsourcing logistics relationship because it translates service level into customer satisfaction, creates profitable and sustainable models, and leads to competitive results for both the user and the provider of third party logistics services (3PL). 3PL providers recognize the central role measurement plays in maintaining successful contractual relationship with their clients and are therefore compulsive about their performance measurement efforts. This research is based a case of 3PL who serves a multi-national manufacturer in the mainland China that have adopted logistics outsourcing strategies for implementing supply chain solutions to their global manufacturing and distribution operations. The case is then used to further generate a 3PL's insights into how to use Six Sigma methods to establish logistics performance measurements under outsourcing relationships. Therefore this research presents findings from the empirical case study that Six Sigma could be developed at least as significant supplement metric system, if not substitute of the existing performance measurements for outsourcing logistics.en_US
