Abstract: The objectives of this project are to find out the reasons for the latest unsatisfactory business results of the Business Development Department (BDD) in a local Chinese bank (LCB), and then to collect information from members of BDD and Management Office of the LCB on their views regarding what needs to be changed, and finally to recommend a new organization structure of BDD which targets at matching the Bank's company objective of capitalizing on all opportunities for corporate growth and profitability. A SWOT analysis is carried out to give a preliminary study of the present situation of BDD for the purpose of identifying the success factors and the potential problems facing the department. An extensive literature review on Beatty and Ulrich's Process for Re-energizing Mature Organizations, Kilmann's Five Stages of Planned Change, and, McCalman and Paton's Intervention Strategy Model is then executed in order to find an appropriate model that is suitable to apply on BDD for maintaining its success. Face-to-face interviews are used to collect information from members of BDD and LCB management team. The collected data is then summarized and analysed. And then a model is selected to apply on BDD with reference to the research findings. At last, it is concluded that the department has to restructure its organization for sharpening its competitive edge and additional points on resistance of change, training and career development are added. It is then recommended the Bank to monitor closely on the progress of the planned change and to ready for other changes for adapting to the changing environment.
