Evaluating the impact of the external environmental uncertainty on the establishment of small firms : perception of entrepreneurs in Hong Kongen_US
This paper is based on the results of a questionnaire survey of a sample of entrepreneurs who have started their business venture in Hong Kong between the Peking event in 1989 and 1994. On the basis of the perceptions of the entrepreneurs of these small firms, the paper attempts to study if the environmental factors / variables will have a significant positive impact on the establishment of firms. The results of the study indicate that although the entrepreneurs consider starting their own business venture is a risky decision, the external environmental uncertainties such as the social and economic turbulence have little influence on their innovativeness for the establishment of the new business venture because the entrepreneurs have the confidence that they can manage the environmental factors. Whereas the business opportunities and the availability of the capital are the most significant factors that play an important role in the starting of the new business venture.en_US
