dc.title | Evaluation of daylighting control strategies on cooling load requirements for commercial buildings | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | A study on the utilization of daylight and its impact on the cooling energy requirements for typical commercial building in Hong Kong was reported. The cooling energy requirements are simulated by using the building energy analysis computer programme, DOE-2.1E, which is developed by the Lawerance Berkeley Laboratory and is publicly available in the USA. A commercial building comprising a 4-level shopping centre and a 10-level office on top, with a design commonly adopted in Hong Kong, has been selected as the simulated building. Building energy simulations were carried out with the application of various daylighting control strategies, including the fenestration systems, electric lighting control, shading device control on the building. The cooling energy requirements for the simulated building were evaluated against the daylighting control strategies. Considerable savings were found in both the cooling and the electric lighting requirements with the use of daylighting in the modeled building. Comments were given on the different strategies applied in the design of the daylighted building. Guidelines for achieving an energy effective daylighting control strategy were established for commercial buildings in Hong Kong. | en_US |
