Pay satisfaction of executive officers in the public sector in Hong Kongen_US
This research re-examines the multi-dimensionality of pay satisfaction derived from Heneman and Schwab's (1985) Pay Satisfaction Question (PSQ). A survey was conducted to a sector of employees in the Hong Kong Government on their pay satisfaction which was assessed in four aspects (level, benefit, raise and structure/administration). An opinion survey was carried out by sending questionnaires to the respondents by mail. The sample size was about 50% of the total manpower of the Hong Kong Government Executive Grade Officers who are currently working in various departments and the Government. Secretariat. Result of the survey revealed that the respondents were generally satisfied with their pay level but were dissatisfied with the aspect of pay raise. In addition, the respondents were marginally dissatisfied with aspects of benefit and structure/administration. Various hypothesis were tested and found to be partially supported by the outcome of the analysis. Implications of the findings for pay satisfaction research are also discussed.en_US
