| dcterms.abstract | There have been no doubt for business nowadays to make use of computer or information technology to maintain its competitiveness in the market. For small to medium size companies, the process of computerisation or the continuous upgrade of their computing facilities may not be very smooth because of their lack of internal resources. By studying the critical success factor of End User Computing in this project, I hope that I can let small business owners to have a better understanding on what area they should emphasis to fully utilised their existing computing resources and how they can facilitate their computing expansion plan in future. Survey was made trough a structural equation model of Magid Igberia (1997)'s study conducted in New Zealand which chose system acceptance as the indicator of success for end user computing. My study's findings is quite normal and with no surprise, there is a strong correlation between perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use with system acceptance. Perceived ease of use is comparatively less important than perceived usefulness which is contrary with Magid Igberia (1997)'s findings in New Zealand. This may due to the unique Hong Kong people's strong demand on efficiency and who is in general more willing to overcome the difficulty in managing a computer system that can give what they want. Internal computing support and management attitude are proved to be very important. External computing support is provided in some occasions. Both internal and external training is not being emphasized and is rarely arranged for existing staff. Although insufficient training does not seem to have a significant effect on people's acceptance in using computer in the present moment, this in fact would adversely affect people's level of computer literacy and would hindrance the company's future growth in IT. A longitudinal study of these variables with computer usage may give further insight into the critical success factors of end user computing. | en_US |
