dc.title | The interactive effect of the entrepreneurship, external environment structure and strategy for a successful company | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Early researchers focused on the characteristics of the entrepreneurs and tried to develop the relationship between entrepreneurs and venture performance. They have the belief that the characteristics of the entrepreneur are the key for a successful venture. However, various studies indicate that there are some other more important factors that can affect the performance of a venture. Sandberg (1980) developed a model that integrating the major determinants of venture performance. His model indicates that a venture performance is a function of the characteristics of the entrepreneur, the strategy of the venture, and the structure of the industry in which the venture competes. Under the framework of Herron & Robinson model (which is an enhanced Sandberg's model), I have selected two similar companies in the same industry for analyzing those factors affecting their performance. One is a Hong Kong private company and the other one is a PRC private company. Both are operating in the construction industry. Although that Hong Kong company has a long history of operation in the industry, it has not been running successfully in recent years. For that PRC private company, it is a young company but it expands quickly within eight years. The company has now becomes one of the largest curtain wall builders in China. The intent of this study is to use Herron & Robinson model as a framework for analysis to identify the major determinants of venture performance in order to explain the performance of the two selected companies. | en_US |
