dc.title | Development of a new quality improvement process in Hong Kong dyeing and finishing factory | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | In respond to the keen competitive environment, the objective of this study is to develop a quality improvement model for dyeing and finishing factory. In recent years, the number of dyeing factory in Hong Kong is greatly reduced because of the high overhead production cost and great competition of the developing countries. Improvement of the product quality can increase the competitive power of manufacturer in Hong Kong or China. The purpose of this quality improvement model is to reduce the operational cost and raw material cost; increase productivity including efficiency and effectiveness; open the new market share and keep good relationship with the existing customer. The main idea of this model is to point out the power of individuals grouping together and the importance of top management involvement. The quality improvement process starts from the bottom level (worker) to the top level (management). The individuals should have the clear pictures of their own working environment or process, also know the weak points of their own environment or process. They can make constructive suggestions to improve their own environment based on the existing material or equipment provided. On the other hand, top management should ensure that the workers should have the ability to understand the company goals clearly. Top management must provide the quality training for the lower level, middle level and top level in order to ensure that the quality improvement process can be implemented smoothly. In this thesis, the Deming's cycle was used as the main frame. The industry study was composed of three parts namely (1) Industry survey, (2) Manufacturer visit, (3) Implementation of model in selected factories. After the industry study of visit and survey, the evaluation of feasibility and limitation was implemented. Some feedback comments on model were collected from the factory manager to evaluate whether the model was feasible, effective and in continuous improvement. The need of developing and applying the quality improvement system was essential to achieve the continuous improvement. This thesis can be used as a guideline for the manufacturers to implement the quality improvement process. | en_US |
