| dcterms.abstract | As China's economy continues its steady development, the country is experiencing a great opportunity for tourism. Economy hotels are most suitable for the majority of the general population in terms of their consumption standard. Shanghai is the biggest economical and trade center in China, a comprehensive industrial base, as well as the biggest port and a famous city with rich history and culture. Shanghai also has the nice tourism infrastructure such as rail transportation system, international airports, convention centers and tourist hotels. Under such circumstances, economy hotels have been developing rapidly, but the business is under great competition pressure. The key to healthy development of the economy hotel business lies in setting up a structure with high efficiency and reducing the size of the staff. This paper reviews the current state and the development trend of the Chinese hotel industry, especially the indivudual hotels and chain franchises. On this background, the paper researched and analyzed the developing experience of Shanghai indivudual and franchise economy hotels, using the successful Jinjiang Star and HomeInn as examples. The author made a series of visits and interviews with those hotels with regard to the organizational structure and revealed the existing advantages and disadvantages of the human resources management in Shanghai economy hotel business. The paper also proposes strategies to deal with the shortcomings. It is hoped that this research would be helpful to the management of Chinese economy hotel business in their effort to develop a model of organizational structure that is compatible with the Chinese market. | en_US |
