Abstract: This research aims to build a material procurement model using a hybrid approach by combining rule-based reasoning, statistical methods and, linear programming adapted to antique style plastic photo frames industry. The central focus in material reordering is to determine an optimal purchase quantity in order to meet the actual and potential sales demands. In dealing with the uncertainties surrounding sales forecast, in-depth knowledge is required in the crucial factors underlying the product design, clientele and country profile. Such knowledge is acquired from experts and then translated into rules for analyzing the relative importance of these factors. Along with statistical analysis and operational research methodology, these rules formed the basis of this forecast system. This model will learn from historical records; provide quantitative recommendation to assist decision making; and operate even at the absence of experts.
