Abstract: Cathay Pacific Airways (Cathay) wine strategy is to position Cathay as "The Best Wine Cellar in the Air", by offering excellent wines (i.e. red and white wine, and champagne), which are the best value for money. The top priority of the company is to meet and/or exceed the total passenger satisfaction, and to achieve the company's service goals (i.e. maintaining the company rating standard, passenger expectations and cost targets). It is Cathay's policy to look for new sourcing and purchasing approaches in order to keep the cost down while maintaining the quality level of goods and services. It is not simply a matter of wine, a decision on the wine should be based on sound commercial judgment, and to maintain Cathay's competitiveness in the airlines' business. This is a challenging objective. In order to be successful, it requires the collaboration and contributions from many people and companies including Cathay's alliance partners in other airlines. To do this, Cathay needs to improve and make adjustments in the whole wine purchasing process. The writer will follow the steps below and examine in detail the new wine purchasing process: > Identify Cathay's mission, goals, and strategies; > Analyze Cathay's current wine purchasing process; > Identify the opportunities in the environment; > Formulate strategies for new wine purchasing process; > Evaluate the supplier and the purchasing performance; > Make recommendations.
