dc.title | Creating integrated accessible environments for public sector housing in Hong Kong | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | This research study attempts to verify, within the context of the design of public sector housing, the extent to which the design approach adopted for a development can influence the creation of fully integrated and inclusive accessible built environments. The research focuses primarily on the user's perspective rather than that of the designer or facility manager and attempts to identify both the successful strategies and current obstacles to creating integrated and inclusive accessible built environments for Hong Kong's public sector housing. The research findings indicated that whilst the design approach adopted has a significant influence on accessibility provision, the creation of a fully integrated and inclusive accessible estate environment is a dynamic process demanding a thorough understanding of the needs and expectations of mobility-challenged people. This research serves to highlight the need to adopt a broad strategy of consultation from brief preparation, during the construction phase and throughout the operational life of the estate. It also identifies a need to increase awareness and improve the skill sets of property professionals in rising to the challenges and opportunities confronting them when responding to the needs and expectations of mobility-challenged people. | en_US |
