The impact of system development process factors on different dimensions of software quality : a case study in a banking E.D.P. Centreen_US
There has been increasing interest in recent years in software quality. In previous research, determinants of software quality were found using data from firms that are implementing quality standard such as ISO and TQM. In this research, I take a different approach. I explore the system development process factors, which have impacts and relations on different dimensions of software quality in organization without implementing the quality standard. Using a survey of 100 EDP staff, which grouped into non-technical and technical groups, in a banking EDP Centre, I analyzed their characteristics, attitudes and perception on working conditions in relation to different dimensions of software quality in term of user satisfaction, testing efficiency, system understanding, and development efficiency. This study has found those factors: current and banking industry working experience banking business knowledge, IS/IT knowledge, customer focus, motivation, organization monitor/control and user involvement do have impacts and relations to at least one or more dimensions of software quality. In addition, research result shows that there are significant differences between technical group and non-technical group in terms of their attitude towards various software quality metrics. When compared to technical group, non-technical group has higher level of requirement over software quality metrics such as reliability, accessibility, security, relevancy, consistency and interpretability. Recommendations for releasing the conflicts between technical group and non-technical group and practices for increasing the level of software quality are also provided.en_US
