Abstract: | Studying the method for filtration of soot particles exhausted by mobile cars becomes more essential since the serious problem of air pollution by diesel car is more significated. The objective of this project is to develop a mathematical simulation for predicting the efficiency of an axial-flow fibrous trap for particulate matters emitted from a diesel engine. The approach technique is based on Mohan Shishir [10], hence the Kuwabara flow field and the fan model of fibrous filter were adopted. The simulation technique is for the mechanism of particle captures - interception and impaction of soot particles in the trap. The size distributions of diesel particulate, the selection of fiber size and packing density as well as the change of fuild flow velocity were also incorporated into the model to account for the single fibre efficiency in various conditions. The comparison between the previous approaches and the simulaiton was also examinated. Finally, recommendation for design of a trap installed to the tailpipe of a diesel vehicle was addressed. |
