|Abstract:||Information Technology (IT) is a new trend in all training institutes in Hong Kong. The application of IT on all instructional staff in the Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre becomes an important project in the coming years. This study was going to investigate into the resistance to change on the instructional staff in the Centre about this integration. It included exploring both the input and output variables of the resistance to change and investigating the relationship between demographic factors and those variables. Three output variables for measuring the extent of resistance to change (use of IT & attitude towards the job after the application of IT and attitude towards the change), 6 input variables (personal practice, general attitude towards IT, comfort/anxiety towards IT, usefulness of IT, personal IT competencies and organizational support), 2 open-ended questions (main effects and factors about the IT application) and 6 demographic factors (gender, age, highest educational level, teaching subject, years of service in the Centre, and staff position) formed a questionnaire. It was used as the quantitative data collection tool in this study. All 64 instructional staff in different position categories from 7 individual departments in the Centre was involved in the survey. Data was analyzed by using SPSS and different techniques were used to analyze the relationship between those output variables, input variables and demographic factors, for example, t-test, correlation test, ANOVA, etc. In addition, a simple qualitative analysis was also used to study the two open-ended questions to find out any unexpected results. Results indicated the resistance to change of instructional staff on this integration was low as instructors reflected positive on all the output and input variables. However, neutral opinions were found amongst instructors regarding enough technical support and enough training for this integration. Furthermore, instructors IT competencies, usefulness of IT and general attitude towards IT were found to have the highest effect on the extent of resistance to change. In addition, age, educational background, teaching subject and years of service in the Centre had effect in this integration. Finally, enhancement of technical support and staff training were recommended as two effective methods to improve this integration in this study.|
