dcterms.abstract | Nowadays, the application of Internet technology is not restricted to information publishing. Internet allows people to communicate, collaborate and cooperate efficiently. This thesis describes the development of a Web-based skating school scheduling workflow system. The thesis discusses the problems of the existing LAN-based scheduling system and proposes a new system that allows us to perform accurate and effective scheduling tasks on the Web. The existing business processes are studied in depth. Through processes re-engineering, the existing processes are optimized so as to reduce the manual steps and replace the manual steps by automatic procedures. Paper forms are replaced by electronic forms. Forms are delivered by computer agents. Processing logic is centralized within the workflow engine. Moreover, process controls are supported in the new workflow system. Furthermore, in order to meet the requirements of interoperability, scalability, high availability and flexible task construction, the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) is used as the middleware technologies in the system. Moreover, the Unify Modeling Language (UML) is applied to assist the analysis and design works. Furthermore, the workflow processes are modeled by the Common Denominator Representation Process Model (CDR). A prototype is built and evaluated by potential users including students, coaches, school manager and counter staff. The evaluation results are positive and they generally accept the proposed approach to perform the class scheduling via the Internet. | en_US |
