dc.title | Work value congruence and job satisfaction : a case study of the First University Hospital West China University of Medical Science | en_US |
dcterms.abstract | Value is regarded as a key variable in studying organizational behavior. The relative importance stems from its demonstrated relationship with such crucial organizational outcomes as job satisfaction and organizational commitment. One way to evaluate the influence of work values is to examine the level of value congruence between sub-groups in the organization. This paper attempted to link the variation in job satisfactions of employees of the First University Hospital West China University of Medical Science in Sichuan to the degree of matching of their work value system with that of the hospital and the perception of their leaders. The value rankings of employees with high and low scores on overall job satisfaction were correlated first with the hospital's value system as perceived by leaders and second, leaders' perception of their subordinates' value system. The resultant indexes of congruence were compared amongst the satisfied and non-satisfied staffs who were divided by their mean scores on overall job satisfaction. Data from 90 employees and 9 leaders suggested that employees scoring high on overall job satisfaction yielded a significantly higher level of value congruence with the hospital than that of the less satisfied respondents. On the other hand, there was little difference between satisfied and non-satisfied staffs in the level of value matching with leaders' perception towards employees' value system. | en_US |
