| dcterms.abstract | Most of the research studies have focused on the Western companies forming joint ventures in developing countries or in the People's Republic of China (PRC). On the contrary, little has been reported on joint ventures between firms from Hong Kong and the PRC. This study mainly identifies four characteristics, venture-creating rationale, ownership, control and partner need, of Hong Kong joint ventures in the PRC and examines the relationship between those characteristics of joint ventures and their performance. Seven hypotheses will be established. Data are collected from 35 parent companies in Hong Kong through judgement sampling using a 50-item structured questionnaire. Data are then analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS)/PC. The results show that one of the seven hypotheses is substantiated and six are non-substantiated. Besides the study provides implications for Hong Kong businessmen who plan to do business in the PRC. Last of all, limitations of the current study and suggestions for future research are highlighted in the report. | en_US |
