dcterms.abstractThe rapid development of the export industries in the Pearl River Delta, especially the western side, demands an effective and efficient feeder network for cargo transportation. A new mode of feeder operations developed by HIT aspires to address the problems of the current feeder networks, with an electronic platform, the "Feeder Network Management System", to facilitate online transactions and information exchange. Currently there hasn't been any study yet to look into the factors affecting feeder operations in the region, and the success factors of this kind of electronic platforms. This study, therefore, aims to explore the potential benefits of such a system to HIT, in terms of the efficiency increased and the cost reduced for the customers who operate feeder service, as well as the obstacles for the development of this system.
