Abstract: | The business environment of the 21st century demands significant changes in the way we do business. Major business trends as deregulation, globalization, technological convergence have transformed the roles that companies play in their dealings with other companies. Traditional focus on high productivity will not help enterprise sustain in the competitive business world. Simply formulating strategy is no longer sufficient as the surviving tools for the entrepreneur. What must be done to keep a sustained profitability and be a key player in the industry without being expelled by the competitors? This paper is written as an attempt in exploring into these areas. The setting of the study is on the traditional industry - Maritime Container Industry, which has been, classified a backward and old-fashioned industry and one of the key industry player - P & O Nedlloyd , will be studied. An in-depth study on the business process in particular on the export documentation process is present with an view to provide a comprehensive picture for readers to understand the hidden problem and also the motives for studies. The key to change is the presentation of IT Product Platform - a revolutionary approach that fuses information technology and time compression management to improve the business performance. A framework is proposed to widen the perspectives in the adoption of networked IT product platform to progressively intermingled the business process and Information Technology of organizations for enhancing the logistics process efficiency and capability, reducing the total cycle time and eventually speeding the time-to-market. The cornerstones to the new model is to promote strategic alliances and work collaboratively so that the non-value added activities of the total supply chains of the parties will be eliminated. Metrics of the new model is also suggested. However, work should not stop when parties are connected and networked system is formed, company should seek continuous improvement as the long-term goal. The generic template for implementing the new business model as a referencing model for other sites to follow is also articulated. |
