Abstract: In this dissertation, concept of hybrid monitoring system with integrated GPS and accelerometer for the monitoring of long-span suspension bridge will be introduced. The technologies for modern bridge monitoring is firstly listed and analyzed. Each technology has its own advantages and limitations. GPS RTK could obtain the replacement directly and continuously but the precise is not very good for detecting the deformation sometimes. Accelerometer has very high precision and sampling rate but can not obtain the replacement directly, and it could hardly monitor long term deformation of the bridges. Therefore the idea of hybrid monitoring system comes out. Then the basic concept of hybrid monitoring system along with the technologies involved is introduced. The focus is then put on how to integrate the observation data from GPS RTK and accelerometer to get more precise deformation information. In order to integrate observations from these two different sources, Kalman filter is simply discussed. Then the algorithm based on Kalman filter is developed for the data fusion. For validate the algorithm developed, a simulating experiment is designed with simulated deformation information and observations for both GPS RTK and accelerometer. Then the simulated data is transformed to the Matlab code and the implementation is carried out in Matlab. Finally the result is given and analyzed. At last, conclude of performance of applying hybrid monitoring system is generated.
