dcterms.abstractStarting from 1988, Hongkong Telecom has been facing a tough time. Asian currency crisis has killed jobs & humbled large corporations. HKT began to take positive actions to reshape HKT well ahead of the economic downturn. HKT has taken a hard look at costs and reduced these where possible to ensure competitive. At the same time, HKT has upheld our reputation for superior quality and delivered improved levels of customer service. This project aims to develop a priority list of success factors of project management in HKT. In which project managers can have better planning for their work. From the management side, gaps are identified between project management and customers' expectation. Thus, management uses better resources and planning to fill in. Consequently, the chance of project success could be improved In HKT. Moreover, the knowledge can also be a good reference for other companies, which have a similar project environment. Projects in HKT are mainly involving a bundle of telecommunication network and service. Most of the projects include Customer Premise Equipment, voice integration, data network and IP/IT that require coordination between departments and regions. Virtual project team is formed and project manager is the key member to overall coordinate all the project activities to get in to succeed. In the past, there were a lot of projects facing crisis, delay of schedule, over budget and some even failure at the end. Most of them are handled by project managers in HKT. The top management has been very concerns on the reputation of the company. Success factors from the literature review are identified A shortlist of success factors is then selected to HKT's environment through consultation to the experienced project managers. Two groups of data were collected from experienced project managers and business customers. AHP model is a scientific modelling and is applied for analyzing the success of project management. Expert Choice is a computer software program of AHP model, which is used to calculating the data. A control mechanism, inconsistent index, is to ensure the validation of the collected data. The advantages and limitations of this model are covered in this paper. It is found that project managers & customers both believe that customer satisfaction and cost are the most important factors to be considered. Moreover, project control is indicated as the highest important factor for project success in HKT. While commitment is the most important factor, followed by project control, size & value ranked by project managers. Suggestions in these areas, by exceeding customer expectation at a time, developing strong sense of responsibility, and providing training and skills development for HKT project managers to increase their competencies, are recommended. Lastly, discussion on the research work and future direction are identified.en_US
