| dc.title | An exploratory study on the interaction between medical social workers and medical practitioners in psychiatric settings, from the perspective of medical social workers | en_US |
| dcterms.abstract | To explore what medical influence and/or dominance exerted over social work practice in psychiatric settings, and how medical social workers respond to medical influence/dominance, 7 individual in-depth interviews with medical social workers in different psychiatric units were conducted in the present study. The findings reveal whether or not respondents perceived and/or experienced medical dominance determined by their collaborative stance and that of the medical practitioners with whom they collaborated. Transitional respondents perceived and experienced more intense medical dominance than traditional respondents did. Medical dominance were found in patient care or rehabilitation plan, case conference and patient discharge. In response to medical dominance, traditional respondents took for granted that medical practitioners should play a dominating role. Yet, transitional respondents tried their best to assert themselves and to convince medical practitioners to consider their views. Otherwise, they could do nothing with medical dominance. In conclusion, the researcher has recommended various aspects to enhance medical social workers' competence and identity. | en_US |
